RANDWICK April 26

Good 4; Randwick A Grass

17 Heats; 1 x 1200m (Open); 9 x 1045m (3 Open; 3 Maiden; 3 2YO); 7 x 742m (1 Open; 4 2YO; 1 3YO; 1 Maiden)

Nature Strip: His class was evident as he strode to a soft 3.3 lengths in his 1045m, recording the fastest overall and closing sectional times (61.83; 33.50). Just as he did in his first Sydney trial before his Galaxy win, he was held up behind the early pace but this time he settled more kindly until James McDonald allowed him to stride freely around the leaders on the turn. From there it became a matter of how far - fair to say his winning margin flattered his rivals.

Zousain: Good to see this class act turn in a sharp piece of work to win his 1045m heat in dominant style. His time didn’t match Nature Strip (62.87; 34.10) but he made a statement with the way he accelerated away from some handy types in the last 100m. His strong gallop through the line indicates he is in the right form for a Brisbane campaign.

CRADLE MOUNTAIN; I THOUGHT SO: This pair of talented sprinters really took the eye with their efforts in the fastest of the 742m heats (43.60; 33.10). Cradle Mountain led easily and was always in control with his response in the last 100m electric. This was his second trial in preparation for his return to racing and points to another successful campaign. I Thought So was set to race first time for new trainers Peter and Paul Snowden in the spring after a big trial but an obvious hiccup kept him off the scene until his return in this heat. He was given the kindest of rides by Glyn Schofield tracking the leaders and went to the line under a throttle hold in third. This is trial form that can be followed with confidence.
