The Daniel and Ben Pearce-trained gelding Vital Silver scored a good first-up win in a closely fought finish.
He began well and settled outside the leader (Great Shot), challenged at the home turn, got to a narrow lead inside the final 100m and then fought best to win in by a short neck.
The favourite Galaxy Star settled back in second last place on the rails in the ten-horse field, eased deeper and into clear running at the 200m and then zoomed home for a late-closing second in a smart and unlucky first-up performance.
Great Shot showed is usual pace to lead and led the field until the final stages and then held on well for a close-up third.
